ChatGPT Ads adds bulk product campaigns and deeper conversion data
OpenAI's ChatGPT Ads now lets retailers build product campaigns in bulk, see why products get rejected and track more conversions. What it means for you.
OpenAI keeps building out the machinery behind ChatGPT Ads. The latest batch of updates, reported by Search Engine Land on September 30, is aimed at stores with big catalogs: build product campaigns in bulk, see why a product got rejected, and measure more of what happens after the click.
None of it is flashy. All of it is the kind of thing a channel needs before a business can run it every week instead of poking at it once.
What OpenAI added to ChatGPT Ads
Here's what changed, per Search Engine Land's report:
- Bulk product campaigns. Advertisers can create multiple product feed campaigns and ad groups by uploading a spreadsheet in Ads Manager, and the ad templates are generated automatically. For a retailer with thousands of products, that is a lot less setup.
- Product review status. The Products tab now shows where each product sits in the review process and why an individual product was rejected.
- More conversion data. The public Insights API can now return attributed conversion events beyond the goal a campaign is optimized for. You can optimize toward one action and still see attributed purchases.
- Separate brand and legal names. Advertisers can manage an internal account name, a public brand name and a registered legal name separately. Changing the brand name triggers a review and pauses ads until it is approved, so plan that change for a quiet week.
- Seven new markets. ChatGPT Ads is expanding to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan. OpenAI's own Ads Manager availability page lists self-service as available in all seven, alongside the United States and dozens of other countries.
Why the product feed is the part to watch
OpenAI is not shy about where the results are. Its help page on product feed campaigns says ads created from product feeds "have been among the strongest-performing ads in our program to date."
The same page explains what those ads show: product images, titles, star ratings, prices, sale prices and your brand. In other words, your product feed is the ad. A blurry photo, a vague title or an out-of-date price is not a back-office problem anymore. It is what a shopper sees inside ChatGPT, right next to a competitor whose feed is clean.
That is also why the new review status matters. Seeing which products were rejected, and why, turns a mystery into a to-do list.
The crawler detail most advertisers will miss
OpenAI's guidance for advertisers on its web crawlers is short and worth reading twice. OpenAI uses crawlers to check that ad landing pages follow its policies, and it says it "may also use content from the landing page to determine when it's most relevant to show the ad to users."
The requirements are specific. You must allow OAI-AdsBot. OpenAI recommends allowing OAI-SearchBot too, and for product feeds, OAI-SearchBot also needs to reach your product image URLs. OpenAI warns that a 403 response from a firewall, CDN or bot-protection rule on your image host can block feed processing.
Here's where the two connect. OAI-SearchBot is also the crawler OpenAI says sites should allow so their pages can appear in ChatGPT search results. A site that is easy for AI to read helps your ads and your free visibility at the same time. If your security settings are quietly turning AI crawlers away, you are paying for that twice.
What this means if you sell online
AI shopping is already happening inside the chat window. As we covered in today's AI News, Adobe found that traffic from AI sources to U.S. retail sites grew 393% in the first three months of 2026, and those visitors converted 42% better than other traffic in March. ChatGPT Ads is OpenAI building a paid lane on that same road.
If you are thinking about testing it, three things come before the first dollar:
- Clean the feed. Check titles, prices, sale prices and images for every product you plan to advertise. The feed is the creative.
- Open the door to the crawlers. Confirm that OAI-AdsBot and OAI-SearchBot can reach your landing pages and image URLs, and ask whoever runs your firewall or CDN to check for blocks.
- Decide what you will measure. Pick the conversion that matters, usually a purchase, and set up tracking before launch so the Insights API has something real to report.
Then start small and read the results by product, not just by campaign.
The short version
ChatGPT Ads just got easier to run at scale: bulk product campaigns, visible product reviews, deeper conversion data and seven new markets. The businesses that do well here will be the ones whose product data and websites are already easy for AI to read. That work pays off twice: in the ads you pay for and in the AI answers you don't.
