How to use this directory
New York's firms range from inception-stage specialists to growth and public-market investors, so the name on the door says little about fit. Start with stage, then read each firm's own words.
- Filter by stage first. 14 of the 33 firms carry a pre-seed or seed label, based on their own descriptions; 9 describe themselves as growth investors.
- Then by sector. 5 list fintech and 3 list crypto among their interests. Our labels are shorthand; each profile shows the firm's own wording.
- Check the office. Several New York firms also work from San Francisco, Boston or London. The profile shows each location as verified.
- Read how the firm wants to hear from founders on its own site. Many prefer an introduction.
Why New York matters for venture capital
New York is the second-largest venture market in the country after California. In 2025, companies based in New York drew $30.3 billion of the $320.0 billion invested in US venture-backed companies, or 9.48%, and made up 13.14% of the 14,757 companies funded, according to the PitchBook data in the NVCA 2026 Yearbook.
This directory covers the 33 New York-headquartered firms with enough public evidence for an accurate profile. A firm headquartered elsewhere that also runs a New York office, such as Boston-based Polaris Partners, appears in its home region's directory, in this case Boston.
How we built this directory
We group firms by their stated investment focus and the research classifications in this directory. A category match is a reason to investigate, not evidence that a firm will invest. Current terms and contact instructions belong on the firm's own website.
Each record lists the pages we checked for it and when. Inclusion means a firm has enough public information to profile accurately, not that it is investing now.
Corrections, and what is not here
Firms change. If a detail is out of date, use Suggest a correction on the firm's row and include your source. We do not list check sizes, fund sizes or contact details; the firm's own site is the source for those.
Investor research and marketing are separate jobs, and this directory is only about the first. If marketing is on your list too, our page on marketing for technology companies explains how we work.
Frequently asked questions
How many venture capital firms are in New York City?
There is no official count by city. This directory profiles 33 New York-headquartered firms with enough public evidence to describe accurately. In 2025, New York companies drew 9.48% of US venture investment, per the NVCA 2026 Yearbook.
Which NYC VC firms invest at pre-seed or seed?
In this directory, 14 New York firms carry a pre-seed or seed label, based on their own descriptions. Filter by investment stage to see them, then confirm on each firm's site that it still invests at that stage.
What are the top VC firms in NYC?
It depends on what top means to you. Our ranking of the VC firms founders search for most measures one thing, how often people look each firm up; fit depends on stage and sector, which this directory lets you filter.
Is this a list of investors who will fund my startup?
No. Inclusion means a firm has enough public information to profile, not that it is investing now or would invest in you. A category match is a reason to research a firm further, not a prediction.
