How to use this list

Your research list stays in this browser. Nothing you pick is sent to us.

How to use this list

  • Filter by listed location, batch, industry or status, or search for a company, a city or one of YC's tags.
  • Listed location uses two rules. The four areas count each company once, by the first Southern California city it lists. “Any Orange County city listed” also includes companies that list Los Angeles first and an Orange County city later, so it overlaps with the Los Angeles area.
  • Each name opens the company's YC profile. The website link goes to the company's own site; we show it only for companies YC lists as active or public, because the domains of closed and acquired companies often lapse or change hands.
  • Status is YC's label, not our assessment. Active does not mean funded, growing or looking for suppliers.
  • Keep a list as you go. Add to my research saves a company in this browser, and Download my list turns your picks into a spreadsheet.

What the list shows

By YC's labels, the 225 companies are 147 active, 34 acquired, 43 inactive and 1 public. The most common industries are B2B (75), Consumer (53), Industrials (39) and Healthcare (31).

They span 40 batches, from Winter 2006 to Fall 2026. The busiest were Summer 2021 (20), Winter 2022 (19) and Winter 2021 (18), and 2021 was the biggest year, with 38 companies. Of the 225, 29 are from Fall 2024 or later, the batches since YC began moving to four a year.

YC flags 4 of them as top companies: Coinbase (Summer 2012), GOAT Group (Winter 2011), Honeylove (Summer 2018) and Whatnot (Winter 2020). Coinbase, the one public company, lists Los Angeles and Remote in YC's directory.

Where marketing fits

A location, a batch or a status says nothing about a company's marketing budget, and this page is research, not a prospect list. If you run a business in the region yourself, our pages on marketing in Los Angeles and SEO in Orange County explain how we work there, and our locations page lists the other areas we serve.

About this data

Each record comes from YC's public startup directory, through the open-source yc-oss mirror of it, pulled on September 13, 2026. A company is on this list when one of the locations it lists is a Southern California city. The Los Angeles area covers cities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, such as Santa Monica, Culver City, Pasadena and Thousand Oaks; Orange County covers cities such as Irvine, Newport Beach and San Clemente; the San Diego area covers San Diego County, including Carlsbad; and the Inland Empire covers Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including Ontario and Temecula.

We show YC's own industry, location and status labels and none of YC's company descriptions. Companies update their listings, so counts change. If a record is wrong, use Suggest a correction on its row and include a source.
